why i think anyone can make a visual novel

hi its me nadia the keyboard maid. i make visual novels. on my keyboard. while dressed up as a maid. sometimes i wear my puppy ears and tail too when i lock in for the extra +200% vn skill boost

every time i host a new vn game jam or see another vn jam starting in my peer peripheral i see countless of people showing clear interest but leaving comments and tags like damn this is all so cool too bad i cant make av isual novel because ive never made a visual novel before. but its like. hey thats how it starts for everyone. thats how it started for me too. i just want all the people going damn this looks neat i wish i knew how to code so i could make a visual novel to know that well heres the thing. i dont know how to code either and look how many visual novels ive done. all you need is insanity and perversion thats just how great renpy is. you just slap "how to do x in renpy" in google and you probably have your answer. if its too complicated ask in the jam community chat and the vn nerds will rush in to help

but nadia nova i cant draw?? yes you can. maybe its bad but you can. trace some anime girls and go paw hands mode its good for the soul. and the thing is. you dont even need art for a visual novel. many of mine and many of my favorites dont have a single sprite or a cg. go play slime feet its literally just a text log and that shits making people bust and cry

but nadia nova i cant write?? if you can read you can write. all you need is imagination and decide you wanna go for it. pick your favorite story and make your own version of it. vent about your brain problems and put them on a character you want to throw down and up the staircase. do your own spin of a trope that pissed you off completely out of spite if thats what motivates you. literally just write smut about your favorite kinks. thats what im doing. theres infinite approaches.

but nadia nova. i want to write/draw GOOD if im going to make a thing!! i cant do it otherwise!! kill the perfectionism in your head. the only way to get better at those things is by doing it. its better to try and make something bad than to not do it at all. thats how i started. thats how everyone started. you can too

guhhh but nadia nova please my visual novel HAS TO HAVE amazing art and great writing and awesome cool brilliant custom ui!!!! then bring your friend who can complement your abilities or make something on your own while you get into the dev community and connect with other devs to work together!!! simply hanging out in spaces with other artists passively raises your own experience. even the lurkers grow stronger. thats just how it works.

nnghhhnghhnadiaaa but im so busy and my life is so full of shit to manage and i have depression and adhd and autism and evil brain disorder and have no time to commit!!! okay you got me there. in my humble and perfect always correct princess opinion this is literally the only valid point. but even then. examine it. how long do you spend just watching videos or playing games or doomscrolling?? you can chip some extra time and energy from a lot of places. many people who manage to make these entries are in surprisingly similar situations as you are. just scope small and go for it. your vn can literally be 5 minutes long. its longer than a vn thats 0 minutes long because it doest exist. and then you get better and more confident at it and suddenly you can do so much more.

read my original more specific guide about the mentality of how i think new devs should approach making their very own visual novels. theres links to resources and links to exactly the kinds of visual novels you can do with minimal to no assets needed. all you need is motivation and the ability to use google to find what you need. and if youre feeling extra spciy. the balls to ask someone else for help. weve all been there. i ask people help all the time. thats how we all learn

well well well look who it is. thats your old pal again. your good ol bestie. remember all the good times you had? back in the day? all those years ago? well it was last year so you cannot. so yeah were hosting toxic yuri vn jam TWO. it'll be running at the same time it did last year. june 1st 2026 to july 14th 2026.

our wonderful money master kyou system has eagerly raised the prizes to show the world just how much we want to encourage people to keep creating and following their passion. a total of $6000 dollars and this time we wanted to give honourable mentions as well to further encourage everyone to shoot their damn shot

it doest matter if the dudes in their oversized suits are scared of girl penis and try to censor art because everything that isnt something they see in the mirror just has gotta be illegal or otherwise they cant sleep at night

were gonna use fluxer as our chat because fuck discord we shoudl discard that thing. see what i did there? i bet you did. yeah. first impression has been great with couple hundred people joining just after the main jam announcement, im curious to see how it turns out when the jam actually starts in earnest

the last year's entries were incredible and the community turnout was amazing. over and over again we keep bringing up how the jam enters to jam entries ratio has been absolutely insane for an itch io jam. ive hosted a ton and ive seen a ton hosted. im very proud to see just how many people joined and were empowered to take the first or maybe their fourth steps into making some horny ass fucked up visual novels.

clearly my mind control powers are working. the sole goal is to convince as many people as possible you can write your cute little characters into fucked up little situations and do it horny style. you can do it. visual novel style. everything, including game jams, dont always need to be bigger and better than the last one, but if that happens then so be it. at the end of the day, i just wanna play some gayass toxic yuri visual novels.

oh i have the microphone now. oh okay. well hello its me. im a little keyboard maid. nadia nova. hii. hi hiii. im a pervert and i cant stop thinking about putting cute girls into situations that is my right as an artist. when i lock in i wear my uniform and put on my puppy ears and tail. it raises my art skill by +200%

in my quest to subject the world to my bullshit i have come up with the ultimate solution of creating a feedback loop of encouraging me, myself, and apparently even others to make even cooler shit: making friends with likeminded people. hosting jams is fun and awesome, and collabing and sharing your brain babies with people you click with only makes it better

that's vn club is exactly that. theres history here too. jams like vncup and entries like wormgrubber, its a long line of little fated coincidences that resulted in me getting in touch with artists that were on the same page as me and thought were cool as fuck and now that's vn club is a thing. and has been a thing for a while. honestly theres plenty lore to get into but thats neither here or there, the most important thing is that creating weird horny psychosexual evil art is awesome but creating said art with likeminded people is the best thing ever.
